Basic Definitions In Electronic Distance Measurements (EDM)

Cycle:

·       When the wave moves through two(2)  identical points on its path , it is said to have completed one cycle.

·       Thus there is one cycle between points A & E and also between B & F.

Wave Length:( λ)

It is the length traversed in X- direction by the wave when it completes one cycle, therefore it is equal to the distance which separates two identical points such as A and E it is measured in meters.

Frequeny: (f)

The number of cycles completed by the wave in one second is called frequency (f). The unit for frequency is hertz (Hz) which is equal to one (1) cycle per second.

Period : (T)

It is the time taken by the wave to travel through one cycle a distance equal to one wave length.
